Carson City's Sonoma Park to be closed temporarily beginning March 25 for maintenance
Sonoma Park in Carson City will be closed from March 25 to April 15 for seasonal maintenance and repairs. This closure will allow efforts to renovate the turf, address irrigation issues, and repair deficiencies related to the parks irrigation system to be made.
During the temporary closure, city staff will be preforming much needed turf rehabilitation throughout the park. Aerifying, overseeding, and fertilizing will be conducted to help turf recover and rejuvenate from the heavy use of this popular park. Staff will also be performing an irrigation audit (evaluation) to address issues and resolve any inefficiencies in the current irrigation system.
During this maintenance and repair period, equipment will be used daily, and irrigation will be used at all hours throughout the day while staff fully evaluate the irrigation system and provide adequate water for seeds to germinate. For the safety of the staff and the public, the park must be closed for the duration of the work, as there is likely to be equipment on site, watering during daytime hours, and exposed areas from digging and trenching.
The City sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure. For a list of the other dog-friendly parks in Carson City, please visit Carson.org/parksandrec.
