Carson City commute: Snow slows traffic on area roadways
A strong winter storm moving through the region has dropped several inches of fresh snow in valley locations, including Carson City, causing road controls on highways and by-ways around the Nevada state capital.
Interstate 580 has chains or snow tires required for about 15 miles from the Carson City and Washoe County line, the Nevada Department of Transportation reported Friday morning. Chain or snow tire controls are also posted for about 31 miles through Douglas County.

Chain and snow tire requirements remain up for U.S. 50 East from about mile post 18.0 in Lyon County to milepost 18.0 in Churchill County, too.
State route 207 requires chains or snow tires from its junction with U.S. 50 West at Stateline to Foothill Road in Douglas County, while SR 28 along Lake Tahoe's east shore requires chains or snow tires from the Douglas County line to 11 miles into Washoe County.
SR 341, from the Lyon County line through Storey County to about milepost 6.0 in Washoe County require chains or snow tires on vehicles.
