L.A. Bakery expanding business in Carson City
Growth happens.
Especially for a business that has made a habit of growing over the years.
But L.A. Bakery owners Ali and Leila Arbabha believe their restaurant's success is in their approach to growth.
"If you start small and build up your business as you go, you will be successful," Ali said.
Starting with working capital only, they have grown from a small baking business that once operated out of the second floor kitchen inside the Brewery Arts Center to a full-service restaurant that's currently bursting at the seams for space.
"Our kitchen doesn't have the capacity anymore to handle the amount of business we have," Ali said.
So Ali and Leilah purchased a lot directly behind L.A. Bakery, on the corner of Fleischmann Way and Curry Street, to achieve the next level of their business.
The existing structure has been leveled and the bare ground is now ready to begin construction on a brand-new addition that will feature a 2,500 square foot restaurant.
The project represents a major expansion of L.A. Bakery that will more than double the size of the operation.
Current restaurant space will be converted to a large kitchen, Ali said, while the new addition will include indoor and outdoor dining with seating for up to 84, a 500 square-foot meeting room, small art gallery, and space for a produce market.
"We are trying to do some sort of organic market in there also, so that we can have organic produce that's Nevada grown," he said.
There are many other plans Ali and Leilah have for the expansion, but these won't be introduced right away.
One step at a time, Ali said.
"We're going to keep adding, but it's not going to happen over night," he said. "Every time we are capable of doing it, we are adding something."
Besides more breathing room for patrons and the business, this year's expansion will also solve the parking issue, Ali said.
"There will parking in front of the restaurant, so we shouldn't have a parking issue any more, which is the biggest thing for people that want to come here," he said.
Ali said construction should take between 135-150 days to complete once ground has been broken. This should put completion some time in August.
A ground-breaking ceremony with city officials is scheduled for March 23.
In spite of the construction over the next few months, L.A. Bakery will remain open to customers.
"Thank you to all of our loyal customers who support us and are always supporting us," he said. "Without them, we are nothing. If you don't have customers then there is no point in growing."
