Carson City sheriff’s log: Man jailed after allegedly destroying property inside home

A 43-year-old man was arrested early Thursday on suspicion of felony home invasion and other charges after allegedly breaking into a home and destroying a big screen television and a computer, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Tony Roten, listed as a transient, was also arrested on a gross misdemeanor charge of property destruction and misdemeanor intoxicated pedestrian.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called at 2:47 a.m. to the 300 block of East Adams Street for a reported battery. Deputies arrived at the location and met with a witness who said he heard loud banging noises coming from inside the home. The witness stated he confronted the man when he was running out of the home, followed him down the street and called 911.

An officer made contact with the owner of the residence who said he was not at the home when the incident occurred and confirmed there wasn’t any property damage when he left. Outside the residence, there was a shattered window near the front door, which was open after the frame of the door was broken and the deadbolt still engaged, showing forced entry, the arrest report states.

Deputies walked inside the home and observed numerous broken items, a large flat screen TV was upside down with a shattered screen. Next to the TV on the floor was a computer with a broken case. There were broken shards of glass throughout the residence. The officer determined there was forced entry and that the suspect went inside the home with the intent to destroy property. The owner valued the loss at more than $1,000, the arrest report states.

Another deputy made contact with Roten on Park Street. He was walking westbound in the middle of the road and could not stand on his own and was falling over in the middle of the street, the arrest report states. The deputy made contact with the man who had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. The deputy observed fresh injuries on his knuckles. The man became uncooperative with the deputy and was placed into handcuffs. Bail: $27,572.

Meanwhile a 44-year-old Carson City woman who was at the scene of the Adams Street residence, was arrested after she walked up to a deputy, identified herself and stated she had a warrant for her arrest.

The woman told the deputy “let’s take care of it,” the arrest report states. The warrant was for misdemeanor criminal contempt issued Jan. 21, 2016 out of Carson City Justice Court. Her bail was set at $1,000.

In other arrests:
— A 25-year-old South Lake Tahoe man was arrested Wednesday, 1:41 p.m. at William and Rand streets on two misdemeanor warrants out of Reno Justice Court. According to the arrest report, a deputy made a traffic stop on a vehicle without license plates. The officer contacted the driver who produced a California driver’s license that returned with two active and confirmed warrants out of Washoe County Sheriff’s Office. Bail: $2,687.

— A 50-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. in the area of Long and Molly streets on a misdemeanor warrant, contempt of court, issued out of Carson City Justice Court. According to the arrest report, a deputy observed a silver SUV run a stop sign at a four-way intersection. The officer conducted a traffic stop with dispatch confirming an active warrant for contempt of court. Bail: $341.

— A 30-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday, 10:58 p.m. in the 2100 block of Highway 50 East on a failure to appear warrant out of East Fork Township Court. Bail: $1,863.
