Snow showers between Washoe Valley and Carson City make for slow going commute
Nevada Department of Transportation says snow showers tracking through the greater Reno and Carson City areas Tuesday morning are leading to light snow accumulations on roadways, especially through Washoe Valley on I-580 where NDOT warns of adverse driving conditions. Motorists are advised to go slow as the commute may be slick.
Periods of snow showers will continue through Wednesday with snowfall most prevalent in the Sierra. For lower elevations, it may be sunny one minute and snowing the next, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
Additional snow accumulations will be minor compared to most recent storms, but still capable of bringing travel difficulties at times, especially through the Sierra. As of Tuesday morning chains and snow tires are required over all mountain passes.
Temperatures will remain well below normal the next several days, with wind chills dropping as low as -25 degrees in the Sierra backcountry overnight.
