Carson City arrests: Man booked for allegedly pointing gun during road rage incident

A 69-year-old man was arrested Friday for suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon following an investigation into a road rage incident that happened in the parking lot of a grocery store, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

According to the report, deputies were dispatched to William Street in reference to a subject with a weapon. During the incident, deputies were advised one of the drivers, later identified as Kevin Frank Myers, allegedly pulled out a firearm and then then drove away from the scene.

Deputies were flagged down by a man who identified himself. He was visibly shaken and explained to the deputy that he took a wide turn near the front of a grocery store parking lot that caused another driver to get angry with him. He stated the other driver stopped and started yelling at him.

He then further described how the driver raised his left arm and produced a firearm. He stated the driver pointed the handgun directly at him and stated he was still seated in his vehicle and the suspect was also still seated in the driver's seat of his vehicle. The man was asked if he feared for his life. The man replied yes and said if the man had pulled the trigger he would have been wounded, the report states.

The man described the firearm for the deputy and described the vehicle occupied by the suspect as a silver older model Toyota Corolla, with Nevada license plates. He described the driver as a white male in his 60s wearing a black shirt and dark sunglasses. The victim showed the deputy a picture he took with his phone of the suspect's vehicle. The photo had the Nevada license plate number of the suspect's vehicle, the report states.

Deputies went to the residence listed on the license plate and located the described suspect vehicle in the parking stall. A deputy watched as an older white male adult who matched the description walk up to the residence and started to unlock the door.

The deputy advised why he was at the residence and detained the man. He read him his Miranda warning but received little to no information regarding the road rage incident. The subject advised him he had a firearm in the glovebox of the vehicle. The man later said "I shoulda got out of my car and tapped my gun on my hip," the report states.

The deputy asked the man for consent to search his vehicle for the firearm. The man denied the request. Another deputy was able to go the grocery store parking where the incident took place and was able to watch video of the incident which showed two separate angles, however the deputy was unable to see the driver of the Corolla point a firearm at the victim driver.

A deputy called the on-call district attorney and advised him of the case. Based on the circumstances it was enough to apply for a search warrant of the suspect vehicle and if the firearm was located to make an arrest for suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

A search warrant wass granted by a Carson City judge and the firearm was found in the glove box. Deputies recovered the firearm, two magazines, a holster and several .380 caliber bullets for evidence. The man was arrested for suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Bail: $20,000.

A deputy arrived in the area and saw a male running across the highway toward eastbound traffic. The officer told the man to get on the ground. He was detained. The deputy could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person. The man began to apologize for his actions and said he panicked, the report states.

The man agreed to standardized field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment on the tests. He was arrested for suspicion of a second DUI. He provided evidentiary breath samples, two of them, of .173. Bail: $2,637.

According to the booking report, deputies were called to a coin operated laundry facility regarding a man with long hair scaring people by hiding in a large dryer.

A deputy arrived where the reporting party informed them the subject was in the large dryer toward the back of the laundromat. When the officer approached the area the man came out from the room.

He was asked why he was scaring people by getting into the dryer. The man denied scaring people and said he was drying his clothes. He had one item in a large dryer, the report states. The man agreed to a search of his person, where the officer found a broken glass methamphetamine pipe and a small clear bag with white residue. He was placed under arrest for possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $1,137.
