Carson City Sheriff's arrest log: Man busted for DUI after vehicle rollover

A 37-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday at 2:12 p.m. near the intersection of College Parkway and Market Street on suspicion of the following misdemeanor offenses: Driving under the influence, first offense, driving without a valid driver’s license, open container, no proof of insurance, failure to use due care, and violation of bail.

According to the arrest report, a Carson City Sheriff’s deputy responded to the area of College Parkway and Market Street on reports of a vehicle rollover accident, the report states.

The deputy observed a sedan overturned on the westbound lanes of College Parkway resting on it’s roof with heavy damage later recognized as the suspect's vehicle, the report states. Other vehicles involved included an SUV with damage to the rear side and driver’s side real wheel, and an SUV with damage to the passenger side.

A witness said in the statement that the sedan had passed her and then attempted to cut between the two SUVs before losing control and flipping the car.

When a deputy confronted the suspect, the man was visibly upset and stated he was scared, the report states. The deputy said the suspect had red, watery eyes, slurred speech and smelled of alcohol. The deputy also observed the suspect to have urinated himself.

According to the arrest report, the suspect had agreed to standard field sobriety tests and completed the medical questions. But when the deputy explained the beginning of the walk-and-turn test, the suspect abruptly stated he was not driving and refused further testing.

The suspect continued to refuse testing and only responded with “I was not driving,” a CCSO deputy said. He refused a request for voluntary evidence. A warrant was requested and granted for blood draw, the report states.

The Department of Alternative Sentencing later informed the deputy that the suspect was on probation for the suspicion of driving under the influence which occurred on Feb. 18, and an open container of beer was later found in the impounded vehicle. Total bail: $5,405.

According to the victim's statement, the argument became physical when Berumen wanted to use the victim's vehicle, and the victim refused because Berumen had been drinking.

The victim stated that she attempted to hide and locked Berumen out of the house, but Berumen went to the rear of the home and broke a bedroom window and entered the house. A picture frame and standing cat toy was also broken, the report states.

The CCSO deputy said a recent swollen bruise was observed under the victim's eye.

Upon arrival to the scene, the deputy reported observing the front door to the home was open, and just then the garage door began opening electronically. Berumen was standing at the passenger door of a car and the elderly mother was positioned near the front of the car, a CCSO deputy said.

Berumen immediately removed her coat and put it in the vehicle and placed her arms behind her back when the deputy made verbal contact. In the front pocket of the coat was an hypodermic needle with some brown substance inside. Total bail: $9,396.
