Chains or Snow Tires Required: NDOT road updates Friday in Carson City and beyond
Here we go again, Carson City. Mother Nature is continuing to dump all the precipitation she has held back the last five years, and we just have to keep gritting our teeth and repeating “We need the water, we need the water.”
The snow will continue all day today throughout the region, according to the National Weather Service. Tomorrow is supposed to be mainly snow-free, so if you have errands to do, it might be better to push them off until tomorrow.
Let’s get into the road conditions:
As of 8 a.m., chains and/or snow tires are required on the majority of I-580 outside Carson City, including Mt. Rose Highway, Washoe Valley, and I-580 into Reno.
On Highway 50 outside of Carson City, chains or snow tires with a 4-wheel drive vehicle are required in most areas, with the exception of Stagecoach, SR 339 to 50, and Churchill.
Within Carson on Highway 50, chains are required on Clear Creek.
Chains are not currently required on Highway 50 in Dayton, or on USA parkway.
Road conditions are likely to change as the day goes on. For real time road conditions and updates, please visit https://www.nvroads.com/
