Carson City area weather: Wind with much colder temperatures, light snow showers possible
With Carson City and surrounding counties waking Tuesday morning to sunny skies, windy conditions have returned and will bring much colder temperatures and the potential for light snow showers, according to the National Weather Service.
The strong cold front will provide gusty northerly winds Tuesday with gusts of 35 mph to 50 mph expected region-wide, and stronger in higher elevations and wind prone locations. This will bring rough conditions on area lakes, and potential ground and air travel difficulties, forecasters said. A Lake Wind Advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Wednesday for Lake Tahoe.
While Monday brought a nice warmup to the region, temperatures will plummet Tuesday, with daytime highs only reaching into the 30s through Wednesday, even the warmest of valleys, with teens and 20s in the mountains, according to the weather service.
Widespread teen and single digit lows can be expected, with colder valleys dipping below zero. In addition the wind will make it feel even colder, especially Tuesday night. Wind chill values will easily be in the single digit to below zero range at times, forecasters said, advising it "will be downright dangerous in exposed areas of the high Sierra tonight with wind chills of -20 to -30 degrees."
So bundle up and be sure to protect vulnerable populations as well as pets.
Light hit and miss snow showers will be possible throughout the region Tuesday. While overall totals will be light, it doesn't take much to cause travel difficulties. See NVRoads.com or call 511 for the latest road conditions.
