Nevada State Museum, Children’s Museum to host annual Lunar New Year celebrations this weekend
It’s time again for Chinese Lunar New Year Celebrations in Carson City.
Each year, the Nevada State Museum and Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada partner together to bring Chinese culture to the capital city.
This year is the year of the Dragon according to the Chinese lunar calendar and the first day of the Lunar New Year is Saturday, Feb. 10.
On Friday evening, come by the Nevada State Museum for a performance with the Reno Chinese Dance Group and hors d’oeuvres by Tee Jays. RSVP Registration is required.
On Saturday, activities will begin at the Nevada State Museum at 9:30 a.m. with Chinese noisemaker crafts on the first-floor landing, followed by storytelling, folk dance and music in the Dema Quinn Concourse.
The annual Lion Procession parade will take place at 11 a.m., leaving from the Nevada State Museum and walking along Carson Street to the Children’s Museum.
Following the procession, STuro, a Mongolian-American performance artist, will host a performance on the Children’s Museum stage.
Then, the Carson Valley Chinese Cultural Group will perform a full dance performance at 12:30 p.m.
Finally, a special art-studio craft will begin at 1:30 p.m.
All of the activities in the Dema Quinn Concourse are free for the day, and Nevada State Museum admission is $10 for adults and free for members and anyone under 17.
Admission to the Children’s Museum is $5 and free for children two and under.
