Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada lease renewed by Carson City Board of Supervisors
The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada will continue with their lease at the location they’ve held for the last two decades, at least for the next three years.
The Children’s Museum has been leasing the building at 813 N. Carson Street since Jan. 1, 2001 for $1 per year. After the initial 10-year lease term ended, the term was renewed for another 10 years, which ended on Dec. 31, 2020.
Instead of renewing for another 10 years, the Carson City Board of Supervisors followed staff suggestions on Thursday and renewed the lease for an initial term of 3 years, 5 months, which will expire on June 30, 2024, with one option to renew for an additional 3-year term.
The Children’s Museum, which is a non-profit Nevada corporation, will continue to lease the building for $1 a year, which is allowed under NRS 244.284, which allows for a $1 per year lease for a charitable or civic purpose.
Earlier this year, the Children’s Museum underwent financial hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and were on the brink of closing their doors.
However, due to donations from Carson City residents through a Go Fund Me, which raised almost $7,000, a pizza fundraiser, donations to the Children’s Museum directly, and grants offered by Carson City through the C.A.R.E.S. Act, the Children’s Museum was able to keep its doors open to continue serving the youth of Carson City's community.
