Film 'A Case for Love' examines societal divide; featured Tuesday at Carson City's Galaxy Theater
Love comes in many forms — parent to child and back again, friendships, and romantic relationships. Love can be exuberant and warm us to the core. Love can also break our hearts and leave us grieving its loss.
“Love one another” in all its forms, is a well known invitation for people of any faith tradition. Only it seems today that division, more than love, might lie at the heart of our ability to relate to one another.
Presiding Bishop Michael Curry, the Chief Pastor of the Episcopal Church approaches live head on. The teachings and writings of Bishop Michael Curry, most well-known for his passionate sermon about “The Power of Love” at the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, inspire A Case for Love.
"A Case for Love" is a feature-length documentary that examines the question of whether or not love, specifically unselfish love, is the solution to the extreme societal and political divide facing the world. It is the first in a series of projects aimed at changing the national narrative of division.
Its creators share, ”In the documentary, our film team travels the U.S. searching for people living their lives selflessly and interviews them about how that way of living affects others and themselves. We also interview random people on the street, discussing where they’ve witnessed unselfish love and where they’ve seen its absence.”
This documentary is being shown in a limited number of theaters nationwide and is available one night only, on Tuesday, Jan. 23. The Carson City community is fortunate to have one of these opportunities at the Galaxy Theater at 7 p.m. Regular admission applies. The theater is located at 4000 S Curry St, Carson City.
All members of the wider community are invited to join members of St. Peter's Episcopal Church for the special showing and to enter into a wider conversation about the place of love in our lives. You may even make your own “case for love."
