Carson City area weather: Highs in the upper 40s to 50 this week, slight chance of showers

Looking at the week ahead weather wise around the Carson City region, forecasters say a couple of weak weather systems may bring some wind and a slight chance of rain or snow showers to the area Tuesday night and Thursday, but nothing to brag about until possibly into the weekend.
A quick-moving disturbance will bring a few light rain and snow showers Sunday mainly north of Interstate 80, along with some breezes. Otherwise, temperatures will cool to near normal this coming week, with weak weather systems bringing chances for light snow at times late Tuesday through Friday. A stronger storm could bring higher snow chances by next weekend, forecasters say.
For Monday through Tuesday morning, a flat ridge will keep dry conditions with generally light winds over the region. Then another weak weather system is projected to bring some increased breezes Tuesday afternoon, followed by a chance for light snow Tuesday night, according to the weather service.
At this time, snowfall amounts look modest, maybe around 2 inches near the Sierra crest west of Tahoe, and 1 inch or less into the Tahoe basin, according to the weather service.
Temperatures Monday will cool off about 4-8 degrees compared to Saturday, with highs mainly in the 40s. A bit of warming is expected Tuesday ahead of the next weather system, with some lower elevation sites reaching the lower 50s. Daytime highs around Carson City will be in the upper 40s to near 50 this week. The next couple of nights will be cooler compared to recent nights due to lighter winds and reduced cloud cover, but nothing out of the ordinary for early January.
There's a chance for a weak storm to push into the area late Wednesday. This will keep a chance of showers in the forecast through much of Thursday, with a chance of some snow showers down to the lowest valley floors, even as high temperatures hover near normal Wednesday and Thursday, forecasters say.
Friday may bring a break from the system in the morning, with a more unsettled pattern to arrive by Saturday, which could bring stronger chances of rain or snow. At this point, forecasters are uncertain how significant of a system it will be but do acknowledge it is stronger than those we'll have had earlier in the week.
