Hello Carson City and welcome to 2020. Moving forward into Thursday, Jan. 2, we're looking at sunny skies with a high around 51. Ahead is a Board of Supervisors meeting, library and art activities and a Carson City Off-Road community discount registration party at the Fox Brewpub. The summer bike event is June 26-28, but register early Thursday and you'll get a discount. Read on for more.

Here's what's happening Thursday:

Carson City Board of Supervisors Meeting. 8:30 a.m. The Carson City Board of Supervisors will meet Thursday, Jan. 2 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center located at 851 E. William Street. Go here for the agenda and action items.

Capital City Arts Initiative Presents: Saludos Amigos. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, "Saludos Amigos", by artist Justin Favela at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. The exhibition will be in the gallery from now through January 29, 2020. The Courthouse is located at 885 E Musser Street, Carson City. The gallery is open Monday through Friday.

Nevada Day art exhibit at Nevada Artists Association gallery at the Brewery Arts Center. The annual Nevada Day Art Exhibit at the Nevada Artists Association Art Gallery will be held from through January 3, 2020. The NAA Gallery is located at the Brewery Art Center at 449 West King Street. The NAA gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m to 4 p.m.

Carson City Library hosts Family Storytime. Two sessions, 10:30 to 12:15 a.m. Each session is 45 minutes. Weekly themed singing, stories, finger-plays, or art centered around a book. Participants 9 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver of at least 13 years of age at all times. 900 North Carson Street.

LEGO Club at Carson City Library. 4 to 6 p.m. Build self-led creations through hands-on learning with LEGO Education materials. Participants 9 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver of at least 13 years of age at all times. 900 North Roop St., Carson City.

Carson City Off-Road Community Discount Registration Night. 5 to 8 p.m. Community Discount Registration Night is returning to The Fox Brewpub on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020, from 5 to 8 p.m. This one-night-only event is a show of appreciation toward Carson City's mountain bike community and offers all who attend the opportunity to save up to $50 on registration. Please Carson City Off-Road organizers at The Fox for a night of stoke and camaraderie! Must be present to register. The Carson City Off-Road is supported by Visit Carson City. The Fox Brewpub is located at 310 S Carson St, Carson City.

A 63-year-old housekeeper was arrested Thursday for 14 counts of credit card fraud and other offenses after allegedly stealing a credit card belonging to an 86-year-old patient who family members said was being treated for a stroke at a local care facility, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office detective.

Marie Finkes is the director of FitzHenry’s Funeral Home in Carson City, and said that over the past year, there have been 12 bodies under her care that have been subject to extended stays. This is due to the fact that Carson City Public Administrator Scott Hoen has ignored their repeated requests for an electronic signature releasing the body for cremation.

On May 15th, 2024, shortly after midnight, deputies with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence located on the 600 block of Angela Street in Fernley, Nev., reference a caller who reported that he had murdered his mother. The caller additionally provided that he barricaded himself inside the house, was armed with a rifle, and had planted pipe bombs at the residence.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and as part of that, Partnership Carson City (PCC) and OSP Northern Nevada are holding a workshop focused on suicide prevention training.

On a sunny Saturday morning, 100 volunteer participants fanned out across Lake Tahoe’s South Shore to take water quality samples from 34 streams, creeks, ponds, and lakes to monitor the health of the Truckee River watershed and Lake Tahoe as part of the 24th annual Snapshot Day. They were joined by teams doing the same tests simultaneously in other regions of the watershed.

Just before noon on Tuesday a crash with injuries was reported on the I-580 on ramp from N. Carson Street.

According to dispatch there are two vehicles involved, one of which was towing a trailer.

Injuries have been reported and the number two lane is blocked.

Traffic cameras show vehicles are moving slowly but are able to get through to Washoe Valley.

Motorists must use caution in the area.
