Two Important Skin Care Tips from Your Local Dermatologist (sponsored)
Your trusted local skin care experts for more than 20 years at Skin Cancer & Dermatology Institute are excited to welcome another talented Provider to their Carson City location – Dr. Samantha Schneider, Fellowship-Trained Mohs Surgeon and Board-Certified Dermatologist.
During Dr. Schneider’s medical residency, she served as co-editor on two textbooks as well as numerous articles on pediatric dermatology and the environmental impact of sunscreen ingredients. So, as a dermatology expert, we asked for her top two professional skin care tips. Here’s what she had to say:
Get Your Annual Skin Exam
According to The Skin Cancer Foundation, 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime. While it is important to see a Board-Certified Dermatologist regularly for skin exams, many patients should incorporate self-skin checks as part of their skin care routine.
Check your own skin regularly and if you find something new or changing make an appointment to have it checked. Learn more about the benefits of an annual skin exam here.
Protect Your Skin from the Sun All Day, Every Day
Sunburns during your youth greatly increase your risk of developing melanoma, which is the most dangerous type of skin cancer. Once you’ve had a melanoma or other non-melanoma skin cancer (like basal or squamous cell carcinoma), you are at an increased risk of developing additional skin cancers. You can protect yourself and your whole family by wearing water-resistant sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and sun-protective clothing (known as UPF clothing), hats, and sunglasses.
Wear sunscreen every day and reapply regularly to ensure complete coverage.
Dr. Schneider loves working with patients of all ages to protect and care for their skin, with interests in pediatric dermatology, pigmentary disorders including vitiligo, and cosmetic dermatology including KYBELLA® and laser treatments.
