Occupy Carson City to protest Saturday
Occupy Carson City, an offshoot of the worldwide Occupy Wall Street movement, will be staging a protest Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at the Nevada State Legislature on Carson St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They invite the media and the public to attend. Anyone who encourages violence will be politely asked to leave. This will not be an occupation – there will be no camping.
Occupy Wall Street began on Sept. 17, 2011, when a thousand protesters began a vigil across the street from the New York Stock Exchange. They began this vigil as a protest against government corruption at the hands of billionaire corporate heads.
The movement has since spread worldwide, with Occupations running full-time in New York, Boston, London, Madrid, and several other large cities. In Nevada, there are Occupations planned for Reno, Carson City, and Las Vegas.
Occupy Carson City held a peaceful protest during the Global Day of Protest (Oct. 15, 2011), successfully drawing in between 75 – 100 protesters. They will be working peacefully with law enforcement and city officials to continue these protests and eventually lead their own full-time Occupation.
