BRIC Art 5
The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, BRIC Art 5, with artwork by eight area artists at the City’s Business Resource Innovation Center [BRIC]. CCAI will host a reception for the artists on Friday, October 17, from 5 - 7pm. The BRIC is located at 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City. The exhibition and reception are free and the public is cordially invited. The exhibition will remain at the BRIC through September 4, 2015. The BRIC is open to the public Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm.
Each year at the BRIC, CCAI’s group exhibition presents northern Nevada artists’ work in a diversity of styles and in a variety of media. The exhibition, spread throughout the first floor offices and conference rooms, presents artists’ creativity in collage, photography, painting, sculpture, and printmaking. BRIC Art 5 features artwork by Joan Arrizabalaga, Ron Arthaud, Zoe Bray, Cyndy Brenneman, Paula Chung, Amelia Currier, Vance Houston, and Emily Rogers.
Joan Arrizabalaga’s humorous mixed media collages take figures from playing cards to inhabit the framed scenes. Ron Arthaud’s oil paintings give viewers a fresh look at Tuscarora landscapes. Zoe Bray developed her classic portrait style while studying in Florence, Italy. Cyndy Brenneman’s colorful watercolors have the figures on the edge of abstraction. Paula Chung based her bright silk embroideries on MRI images of “Lynne’s Spine”. Delicate blossoms inhabit Amelia Currier’s encaustic monotypes. Vance Houston has taken paper to a new level in his folded sculptures. Color photographs from Emily Rogers’ “West of Wells” series give viewers a tour of historic Reno residences.
The Capital City Arts Initiative is an artist-centered organization committed to the encouragement and support of artists and the arts and culture of Carson City and the surrounding region. The Initiative is committed to community building for the area's diverse adult and youth populations through art projects and exhibitions, live events, arts education programs, artist residencies, and online projects.
CCAI is funded in part by the John Ben Snow Memorial Trust, Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts, City of Carson City, Nevada Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities, Comstock Foundation for History and Culture, and the John and Grace Nauman Foundation.
