A Muscle Powered Sunday Hike to Marlette Flume Trail from Spooner Lake to Incline Village
Join Muscle Powered on this leader-led hike on Sunday, September 30. A long hike with spectacular views of Lake Tahoe and the mountains beyond, this will be a one-way, 13-plus mile hike along the Marlette Flume Trail from Spooner Lake to Tunnel Creek Road in Incline Village.
The hike starts at Spooner Lake and follows a single track trail to Marlette Lake and then 4.4 miles of a gentle descent to its northern junction with Tunnel Creek Road. This historic trail winds thorough the hillside, weaving around rocks and trees then opening up to expansive views of Lake Tahoe and surrounding mountains. This part of the trail feels mostly flat or slightly downhill and there are some steep drop offs and the trail can be quite narrow in some sections. The Flume part of the trail is also a popular trail for bikers, so "share the road" rules apply. A section of the trail is under repair by State Parks but will be passable on the weekends.
This hike is for fit, experienced hikers only who can hike this distance and keep up with the group. With travel time and the length of this hike, plan for all day, at least 8 hours.
Meet to carpool or caravan at 7:30 am at the Hwy 50 park and Ride. Since this is a one-way hike, cars will be staged at Spooner Lake parking area and near Tunnel Creek Road.
Sorry, no dogs allowed on our weekend hikes. Closed-toed hiking shoes, a minimum 2 quarts or more of water, and lunch and snacks are required. Hiking poles highly recommended. Contact for further information: Donna Inversin, donnanv1@gmail.com.
