Grant Opportunity for Carson City Non-Profit Organizations
Carson City is now accepting Letters of Intent to Apply for our Five-Year, Non-Competitive Community Support Services Grant (CSSG).
Non-profit organizations and government agencies are qualified to fill out the Letter of Intent. Projects or programs must be for Carson City residence.
This program allows non-profit agencies, in Carson City, to be approved for CSSG funding for a five-year period without needing to re-apply every year.
Agencies who apply must demonstrate that they provide a service that is deemed critical for the operation of Carson City and/or a mandated service by the State, that the City would otherwise be required to provide.
Approved Non-Competitive grants shall be reviewed annually to assure compliance with Carson City grant guidelines.
Carson City will initiate the application process, once every five years, by publicly advertising to all Carson City non-profits.
If your agency qualifies for the funding and is new to the non-competitive category, you will need to fill out an application and present, to the Board of Supervisors, an explanation on how your agency provides a non-duplicative critical service to Carson City.
Agencies who received a non-competitive grant in the last cycle, will need to submit a new application during the application period; in addition, those agencies are required to present, to the Board of Supervisors, the efficacy of their program as it pertains to the established critical needs.
Your presentation will need to include accomplishments in the form of hard data, growth data, changes in the program and any difficulties encountered over the five-year period.
The Board of Supervisors can deem a competitive grant as a non-competitive grant at any time during the five-year cycle. The agency awarded a non-competitive grant would be subject to all the same Carson City policies and guidelines.
Furthermore, the agency would need to re-apply during the next five-year cycle, regardless of when the change occurred.
An Application Review Work Group will read, review and score all applications. Based on the Application Review Work Group recommendations and the information provided in presentations, the Board of Supervisors will have final approval on funding.
The historical level of funding for this category is 45% of the total allocated to CSSG but is subject to change based on the Board of Supervisor’s final approval of Non-Competitive grant applications.
The criteria set for the non-competitive category is founded on NRS 244.1505 and NRS 372.3261.
In addition, your agencies proposal must meet one of the following critical needs of the community:
- Disabled Citizens Services
- Domestic Violence Services
- Health/Dental Services
- Mental Health Services
- Senior Citizen Services
- Substance Abuse Services
- Youth Services
It is imperative that you describe in your Letter of Intent why your project is a critical need for the community. Approval to move forward with the application will depend heavily on how well your agency is able to justify how the project or program is satisfying a critical need for Carson City residence.
If your agency is awarded, CSSG Funding begins July 1, 2021 and ends June 30, 2026. Upon approval by the Board of Supervisors, the grant money will be distributed on a reimbursement basis. All grants approved shall be subject to funding availability.
Letters of Intent are due on September 25, 2020, by 4:00 p.m. to Carson City, Department of Finance, 201 North Carson Street, Suite 3, Carson City, NV 89701, or by e-mail to grants@carson.org
