Muscle Powered hosts Saturday hike to the Tahoe Rim Trail from Spooner Summit to South Camp Peak
Carson City's Muscle Powered group will host a Saturday, August 25 hike to the Tahoe Rim Trail from Spooner Summit to South Camp Peak.
Meet at 7:15 a.m. at the Park and Ride lot on Hwy 50 just west of the intersection at 395 to carpool to the trailhead since parking is limited. Plan on 5-6 hours which will include travel time and breaks. For fit, experienced hikers only! This is a great hike but includes some steady uphill, high elevation, and needed stamina to keep up with the group.
Two quarts of water, sturdy hiking boots and a snack is required for every hiker. Hiking poles highly recommended, a hat and sunscreen. Distance and Terrain: 10.4 miles round-trip with 1875' elevation gain to South Camp Peak. Sorry, no dogs will be allowed on our weekend hikes until further notice.
The trail is steep early on and a bit rocky in some places but offers beautiful views of Lake Tahoe and the western mountains on non-smoky days, plus the joy of walking in the quiet, pine forest. Heavy smoke/unhealthy air quality will cancel this hike.
Check the Muscle Powered Calendar or Facebook or contact one of the leaders if this is a possibility that day.
Contact Connie Cummings (415-697-7221) or Alyce Cloutier (775-250-0282) if you have questions.
