Mills Park pickleball court project in Carson City complete and open for play
We are proud to announce the first phase of the Mills Park Pickleball Court conversion project in Carson City is completed. As of Tuesday, July 21, 2020, the courts are open to the public.
This phase consists of four dedicated pickleball courts with permanent nets, installed on the westernmost of the two asphalt-base tennis courts.
The project is the result of the cooperation and support of many people, including; Carson City Parks & Rec Department, the Carson City Parks & Rec Advisory Commission, the Foundation for Carson City Parks and Rec, the Truckee Meadows Pickleball Club, all of our Northern Nevada USA Pickleball Association (USAPA) Ambassadors, a great many generous donors, and a fantastic group of volunteers who performed most of the work.
In the past 11 days, our volunteers contributed over 450 hours of hard work to make these courts a reality. Juana and I couldn't be prouder of the effort all of you made to bring this phase of the project to a successful conclusion. A huge thank you to everyone who supported, donated and participated in this endeavor. We are forever grateful to have such tremendous support from our community.
Our hope is that many of you will now come to Mills Park to enjoy the fruits of your labor, and invite your fellow pickleball players to join in. This project reflects and demonstrates the passion that we all have for our sport. We have many ideas about expanding opportunities for outdoor play, and look forward to hearing your comments and feedback on the new facility.
For everyone's safety, please adhere to the Governor's requirements for group gatherings. That is, please wear a face covering when not engaged in active play on the court. We don't want to lose any of our players, or endanger loved ones. This is an imperative. If we don't adhere to this requirement, we will lose our permission to play on these courts.
We have posted some "trial" rules, which are subject to change, depending on feedback from players. Please give this a try, and then provide constructive comments as appropriate. There is no one "in charge" here, this is a cooperative endeavor. Let's demonstrate courtesy, good sportsmanship and fair play in the allocation of court time. It's up to each of us to ensure a safe and fun play environment for all.
The panoramic photo is from our volunteer trial run, sort of a "shakedown cruise" and reward to those who have worked so hard over the past two weeks on the project. We hope you enjoyed the play as much as Juana and I did watching everyone having fun. Seeing all those happy faces and hearing the laughter and joy coming from the courts was very moving to both of us. Thank you again to everyone involved. This was a total community effort, which should make all of you very proud.
Please tell your friends about our Mills Park courts, and invite them to come join in the fun. We're looking forward to bigger things in the future. See you on the courts. Paddles up! — Juana and Dave
