FERNLEY 95A SPEEDWAY RACE RESULTS 4/28/2012
Fernley 95A Speedway’s second race of the year saw 80 cars take to the 3/8 mile clay oval, with an additional nine Outlaw Karts racing on the small infield track. Spectator attendance was good, particularly in the popular tailgate section behind Turn One.
Shawn Hartzell captured both his heat race and the A main in the Pure Stock division. Travis Barr won the other heat race and came home second in the A main, followed by Al Bishop, Bracee Langevin, and Mark Serchio, Jr.
Billy Wilson won the Dwarf car A main, with heat race winner Shane Ramthun coming home in second place. Ramthun won his heat race, as did Race Shelton who finished third in the A main. Roy Peterson and Tate Moorhead rounded out the top five finishers.
Justin McIlvain was first to the checkered flag in both the Mod Mini A main and his heat. John Buizch took second place in the main and Eric Slusher was third and the winner of the other heat race. Steve Singley and Zach Barchi finished fourth and fifth respectively in the main.
It was the first time at Fernley 95A Speedway this season for the Sprint cars, with seven of the open-wheel beasts on track. William Hopper won the heat race, but couldn’t catch A main winner Bob Cooney. Larry Oiveira, Robert Cooney, and Galen Reese took third through fifth.
Fifteen Hobby Stock cars took the green flag for the A main, and when the checkered flag flew it was Richard Italiano taking the victory. Carl Barlow, Brian Moore, Randy Boyd, and Dean Clark took the next four finishing positions. Royce Goetz and Rick Miller each won a heat race.
In the Pro Stock division, Craig Nieman took the victory with Rob Grace in second. Josh Ogg was third, Gary Nevers in the “War Pony” fourth, and Joe Specchio Jr. rounded out the top five. BJ Pearson won the first heat race, with Specchio taking the checker for the second heat.
The IMCA modifieds filled the track with 18 cars, and the racing was fast and furious. When the checkered flag waved, Jeff Olshowka was the first to see it. Tom Purcell had a nice drive to second place, followed by perennial front-runner Robert Miller (who sang the National anthem earlier), Jake Holland, and Bill Pearson in third through fifth places. The large field necessitated three heats, which were won by Holland, Purcell, and Steve Boucher.
Racing resumes at Fernley 95A Speedway on Saturday, May 12. Spectator gates open at 3pm, racing begins at 6. Go to www.Fernley95ASpeedway.com for more information.
