Citizen directs message to person who left abandoned camp fire off Goni Road
Editor's Note: Carson Now asks its readers to use their real name with submissions. We received this submission today from "a concerned citizen." Because of what they found, and the fact that Nevada is generally always in a state of fire danger, we thought we'd let this one slide.
Camping season is upon us, and the weather is getting nice. It's that time of year when people like to get out and have a good time in the great outdoors camping, four-wheeling, hiking etc. It's fun to enjoy our open spaces.
Just remember, it's important to be responsible while we're all living it up outside.
Sometimes it's easy to forget that the desert is fragile, and we shouldn't do things like dump trash, cut new trails, or burn it all up to a cinder.
Imagine my surprise when I found a still burning and apparently abandon bonfire this morning, all stoked up with what appeared to be local sage brush. (See picture).
Yes, I know it was in the middle of a dirt road intersection; but the wind usually picks up around this time of the morning and your argument that blowing ashes wouldn't start a fire is invalidated by the fact that you were burning that same sage you obviously don't seem to think is flammable enough to put your g**damn fire out. And the really sad thing is, you probably won't even read this. It's ok. I got that for you. I buried your fire as best I could with a snow shovel.
To the Jeep that rolled by claiming it was four wheelers and apologizing? Consider opting to help next time. You're letting dumb asses like that give the sport a bad name.
So remember people, go out and have fun; but don't be a douche bag. Put your fires out. Pack out your trash. It's just that easy.
