Family Fun Saturday: Desert Adaptations
Experience a hot new science program introducing the masters of survival: Kangaroo Rat, Burrowing Owl, Desert Tortoise, Antelope Squirrel, Creosote Bush, cacti, and succulents.
Discover science and art activities the whole family can enjoy.
Resident scientists will be on board to explain how plants and animals survive—even thrive—in Nevada’s desert landscape. Test how temperatures fluctuate with or without shade. Learn why animals burrow underground and how some can live without drinking water. Discover the mystery behind “ephemeral” ponds. Make a cute popup book or create your own desert scene with stamps.
This program is recommended for ages 8 and up but can also be enjoyed by adults without children. Cost: $8 for adults; free for museum members and ages 17 and under.
