Community Meeting in Support of Wild Horse Children's Theater

On July 4, 2012, after 6 years as resident theater company at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada, Wild Horse Children's Theater was evicted from the museum via an email letter with no discussions or negotiations of the eviction. WHCT was asked to remove all theater items out in 30 days without an exploration of how the museum and WHCT might work together to unwind from this 6 year relationship by offering storage space until something else was secured and/or letting WHCT continue at least until the end of the year with the programming that was scheduled at the museum.

Beginning Pottery Express Class (16-adult)

This four-week intensive for the beginning potter will teach you how to throw using the potter’s wheel. You will also learn trimming and glazing techniques while becoming familiar with the workings of the pottery studio. Completion of this class will allow you to take Open Studio. Pablo Cruise headlines A Concert Under the Stars Wednesday

Dave Jenkins returns for his second performance at A Concert Under the Stars, a fundraiser for The Greenhouse Project, July 11 with his band, Pablo Cruise.
Jenkins performed four years ago for the inaugural event, which takes place at Café at Adele’s, but his love of music began at a tender age.
“My folks had an old pump organ and I couldn’t reach the pedals,” Jenkins said. “I’d play and my sister would pump the pedals for me; I always had an ear and a love for music.”

Food Truck Fest at Fandango

More than 2,000 people came to sample the delights cooked up by 18 gourmet food trucks who came from as far away as Los Angeles to participate in the Casino Fandango's Food Truck Fest.

Scenes from Legends of the West Show & Shine and Bike Fest

Downtown Carson City was alive this morning as the Legends of the West Show & Shine and Bike Fest kicked off. Carson Street is closed between Robinson and Musser for the car and motorcycle show. The event features classic cars, food, drinks music and fun.

Part of the event includes the Carson City Sheriff's Office 9th Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge in front of the Carson Nugget. Watch as motorcycle patrol personnel from around the state work their big bikes through an obstacle course.

The event goes on all day until 7 p.m.

Mighty Surf Lords to open 'Concert Under The Stars'

Tickets are on sale for the fourth annual Concert Under the Stars, a fundraiser for The Greenhouse Project, featuring Pablo Cruise, Jaime Kyle and Northern Nevada’s own The Mighty Surf Lords.

The event takes place July 11 at Café at Adele’s and begins with the silent auction at 5 p.m., followed at 6 p.m. with happy, fun-filled music by The Mighty Surf Lords, who also played the venue last year and who open this year for Jaime Kyle and Pablo Cruise.

Carson Folk Musicians Find Support on the Web

Carson City, NV – Two local folk musicians are finding benefactors for their music via the Internet. When the husband-and-wife folk duo Tom and Mary Kay Aufrance went looking for some financial help with publishing their upcoming music CD release, they decided to try a novel approach - auctioning off sponsorships on their CD via ebay.

Story Interpretation for Beginning Actors (Ages 6-9)

Using well-known fairytales as a starting point, students will write, cast, and rehearse their own unique version while designing and constructing basic props and costumes. Vocal Performance Workshop (All ages)

It’s time to get ready for your next audition or performance! Participants will get a chance to hone their performance skills in front of a small but supportive group of peers, receive feedback, and learn to incorporate it. Participants may also choose to work in small groups to learn harmony and back-up singing techniques. Topics covered: Song interpretation, nerves and ‘stage fright,’ connecting to the song, connecting to the audience, song selection, and stage presence.

Improvisation for Teen Actors (ages 10-15)

This 7-week workshop series will introduce students to the basics of acting through theatre games, acting exercises, improvisation and scene work.
Focus will be on active participation. Students will engage in creative exercises to build self-confidence, as they develop imagination, creativity and self-expression.
These exciting classes will culminate with in-class demonstrations where students share their experience with family and friends (Final presentations August 19th/and or 2oth).

"Behind the Scenes" Tours of Natural History

Dr. George Baumgardner, curator of Natural History, will take visitors “behind the scenes” of Nevada’s plants, animals, specimens and other natural history collections on June 29 at the Nevada State Museum, 600 North Carson Street. What’s so special about these artifacts is that they are not normally on display and encourages visitors to become familiar with these rare collections. A sneak peak of the new Discovery Lab and other future developments of the natural history exhibit are also included during the tour.
