Merrell is known for her sultry voice and songwriting. She has played in venues at Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago, and Reno/Tahoe areas.

Hello Dolly! Auditions set for August 7-9

The production will play weekends at the Carson City Community Center, Nov. 3-18. Matchmaker extraordinaire Dolly Levi decides to fast talk her way into a match of her own in this ebullient and irresistible story of the joy of living.
A Face in the Crowd starring Andy Griffith
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 07/25/2012 - 12:41pmA Face in the Crowd, a film debuting Andy Griffith in his first major role, will be presented at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 1st, at the Carson City Library.
The film will be hosted by former state archivist Guy Rocha and Reno News and Review editor Dennis Myers. The movie was directed and produced in 1957 by Elia Kazan, and written by Budd Schulberg. This film, which launched Griffith into stardom in the lead role as Larry “Lonesome” Rhodes, also stars actors Patricia Neal, Anthony Franciosa, Walter Matthau, and Lee Remick.
Nevada Artists Association Hosts Landscape Gallery
Submitted by Molly Moser on Sun, 07/22/2012 - 9:35pmTake a glimpse at a photograph that evolves into multiple masterpieces at the Nevada Artists Association’s Seventh Annual Landscape Show at the Brewery Arts Center Gallery, from July 31 – September 7 in Carson City.
Participating artists paint from the same photograph provided from the show using their own style and mediums, and even creating their own version of the photograph. The gallery will display the different styles that the artists have used for their creation.
Local Karaoke Night to be on Live Television

The friendly, non-Simon Cowell, Idol-Style Judges will be observing each participant's performance. Participants are welcome to bring their own karaoke track, choose from a provided song list, or even a self-written song.
Film and Acting Classes Offered for Kids and Teens

Students who sign up can choose from film classes such as screen writing, directing, acting, and editing and posting production. These classes range from $20 - $120, and each class will be in session between the dates of July 25 – August 16.

For the second year, the Virginia & Truckee Railroad is one of the officially licensed Polar Express Train Ride events nationwide this holiday season. This historic 100-year train, complete with decorated passenger cars and Christmas music, leaves the Carson City Eastgate Depot and travels nearly two miles before staging at Santa's mythical North Pole retreat.

Performances at multiple venues in Carson City will feature more than 100 musicians in over 50 bands, Aug. 3-19 and are mainly free. Music styles include Dixieland jazz, big band, bluegrass, Latin, blues and folk.

This year, 15 local restaurants and farmers will be paired together to produce mouthwatering samples for festival-goers to enjoy. Each food sample will be paired with an accompanying wine, also local to the region.

Celebrate History of the Carson City Chamber of Commerce

The event begins at 5:30 P.M. with a no host cocktail reception, followed by a barbeque. At 7 P.M., the program begins installation of the 2012 – 2013 Board.
The cost of entrance is $45 per person, and it includes a commemorative book.

Nevada State Museum hosts Family Weekend

Of course, the parents have their own scientific duty as well; as the kids take on experiments with nature, parents will use microscopes and specimens in a lab setting. Activities will also include creating and painting a lizard or a snake model.
Adult admission is $8, free for museum members and children 17 and under. This event will take place on Saturday, July 14, from 1 P.M. to 3 P.M. at the Nevada State Museum, 600 N. Carson.
Build a Fairy Garden at Greenhouse Garden Center

This workshop will give guests a tutorial on building their very own Fairy Garden, in only a small patch of space of a container. This creation will be a great accessory to herb gardens or along side a row of plants, and is perfect for all ages.
The cost to attend the workshop is $6. Guests are welcome to bring their own containers or purchase one at the Greenhouse Garden Center, along with Fairy Garden accessories. Refreshments will be provided.

While the BAC is open to other artists and arts organizations, as well as the general public for collaborations and to rent their facilities, a resident status may be offered to organizations who demonstrate sound business practices, financial strength, the ability to fill seats and, above all, artistic prowess. Both organizations will retain their independence and tax exempt, nonprofit status.
Art project 'Visualizing Change' at Lake Tahoe's Sierra Nevada College through July 27
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 07/11/2012 - 6:22pmThe Lake Tahoe Science Consortium collaborated with University of Nevada, Reno’s Department of Art to create “Visualizing Change,” a photographic art expedition intended to convey concepts in environmental restoration at Lake Tahoe to the scientific community and general public. The exhibit is located in the Prim Desert Research Library at Sierra Nevada College at Lake Tahoe’s Incline Village. It features photography and oil painting contributions from eight noted artists and is free and open to the public through July 27.

Travel to France at the Nevada State Museum

Museum research associate Mary Covington will talk at 6:00 pm about the history and significance of gifts sent from France to the United States aboard the 1949 Merci Train.
The exhibit includes 21 travel posters of French regions along with a wedding dress from Lyon, trench art, and personal treasures sent in gratitude to the U.S. for support following World War II.
