A significant storm will impact western Nevada Friday through Sunday morning with gusty winds and rain, according to the National Weather Service. The weather pattern will remain active through the first week of 2023 with cold storms an potential for snow accumulations on valley floors.

Weather forecast prompts cancelation of SnowTown Throw Down, fireworks still on

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lakeview Social of South Lake Tahoe planned a two-day end-of-the-year outdoor event, SnowTown Throw Down.

Due to the forecasted wet weather for both days, organizers have had to cancel.
At this time, everything is still planned for Heavenly Village but wind and weather could impact their events. If they are able to safely operate, organizers said it's still "a go."

While Nevada rents have fallen, renters say prices still too high

Average rents in Nevada started to tick downward in the last half of the calendar year, dropping more than in any state in the country. But for many renters who struggled with fast and sharp rate increases over the last few years, it doesn’t feel like relief.

November gaming revenue down 9.4 percent in Carson City area, 7.6 percent statewide

Gaming revenue at Carson City area casinos was down 9.42 percent in November, according to figures released Thursday from the Nevada Gaming Control Board. Statewide, gaming revenue was down 7.62 percent compared to November 2021.

Carson Pines Apartments evicts 23 families with 6 days notice for problem they’ve been aware of since June 2021

Dozens of people are facing an eviction notice from the Carson Pines Apartment complex on David Street in Carson City with as little as six days notice to move.

The problem is that the apartment complex’s upper floors have become significantly damaged and deteriorated to the point of being structurally unsound — an issue management has known about, and been to court for, since at least June 2021.

With more rain coming, Carson City Public Works addresses measures to prevent flooding

Wednesday will provide a short, blue-sky break from the rainy storms moving through the region this week, but the rains will return Thursday and into the weekend and with them, the increase risk of flooding.

Some flooding was already noted on Tuesday throughout Carson City as rains continued. Heavy rains are expected Friday through the weekend, prompting a Flood Watch for the region. Carson City Public Works spoke with Carson Now on how to prevent flooding — and why it matters.

More details released in fatal Carson City shooting

A Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report reveals more details into the fatal shooting and arrest for suspected open murder that happened Wednesday night in the area of East William and Stewart streets.

Samuel William Cocking, 19, is being held without bail for alleged open murder and firearm possession offenses. The adult male victim was allegedly shot by the suspect and died after being flown to Renown Medical Center in Reno.
