A nine-month project to build a bridge on the Carson City freeway begins Monday, according to the city’s transportation manager Pat Pittenger.
Snyder Avenue will be closed between East Roland Street and Center Drive. This portion of Snyder Avenue will remain closed for about nine months to allow for the construction of the bridge. Here’s a story in AroundCarson.com that helps explain the evolution of the freeway.
“This summer, and into the fall and winter, South Carson is going to be a hotbed of activity as Snyder is lifted up and over the new freeway. Just like how it is in the north, the freeway will end up being a wall that will divide South Carson into two halves. The bridges that have already been built at Koontz and Clearview will be one way to get to the other side of this wall, and this overpass at Snyder will be the third. This is a major milestone in the freeway project, and the fact that there will soon be physical evidence of the freeway’s presence in South Carson is heartening news for those of us who just want to see the thing built and opened already.” — Scott Schrantz, AroundCarson.com
Center Drive and Silver Sage will also be closed south of Appion Drive to south of the existing Snyder Avenue. Those streets will be closed permanently to through traffic. Detours will be marked. Residents should expect additional roads serving north-south traffic to be closed in coming weeks, including Frontage Road and Bigelow Drive.
The left lane of the southbound off-ramp from I-580 to access William Street and US 50 will be closed Tuesday, March 12, through Thursday, March 14. The right lane of the ramp will remain open to traffic.
Utility work in the City will have the following traffic impacts:
– There will be daytime work in the parking lane of Jewell Avenue Monday, March 11, to Wednesday, March 13.
– There will be daytime work along Fermi Road from Thursday, March 14, to Friday, March 15. The work will be in the shoulder except for the crossing of Fulton Court, which will require flagger control with minimal delays.
– There will be daytime work on Glenbrook Circle on Thursday, March 14, and Friday, March 15. The work will require flagger control with minimal delays.
