The last high school regular season tennis matches of the year throughout Northern Nevada took place Thursday. This of course included Carson High School who entertained the Minors of Manogue, at home, in their final regular season match up. The Minors came in as very heavy favorites, but Carson was certainly making a match of it none the less.
First round: the Miner’s number one and number two singles players came out as advertised and dominated the court to give the Miners two. Then after a surprising number three singles win on Carson, along with Carson’s number one and number two doubles teams winning, the score was 3-2 Carson until at last the number three doubles team of Carson was defeated. So the score after round one was three all.
Into round two and it seemed somewhat repetitive from the first one. The Miners got one doubles win along with another two from their dominate singles. Carson got an identical win from their number one and two doubles along with a win on the singles side of things. So the score after round two was six all.
The final chapter is where at last somebody would break through. The Minors got their typical two wins in singles, and Carson took the third. The deciding factor would come down to the doubles side of things and the number two and number three doubles team from Carson would summit to a defeat which gave the Miners the match and the clinching win for the number two seed at team regionals.
Kyle Kunz and Aaron Woodbury looked strong and went 3-0 on the day, which guarantees them a spot at least the four seed going into individual regional competition. The Senators first round of team regionals will take place this Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Carson High.
