23-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday for suspicion of DUI, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and four other misdemeanor offenses, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office booking report.

According to the booking report, a sheriff’s deputy was driving northbound on Airport Road and rounded the corner near Desatoya and observed a SUV that was traveling almost completely in the northbound travel lane while going southbound. The majority of the vehicle was in front of the deputy, where he had to pull over to the right to avoid a collision, the report states.

The deputy turned around and observed the vehicle traveling southbound and attempted to catch up with it. The deputy observed the vehicle roll through a stop sign without coming to a complete stop of any kind, the report states.

The vehicle then accelerated, driving in the median as it went westbound on 5th Street. The deputy activated their light and siren, where the vehicle continued to accelerate as it crossed over the 5th Street bridge. After passing over the bridge, the vehicle began to slow down, coming to a stop near 5th Street and Teague Street.

The officer gave the driver verbal commands to place their hands outside the vehicle window. The officer was not getting a response from the driver and so the deputy gave the command “put your hands up” and watched the driver instantly place his hands outside the window. Another deputy arrived and assisted by giving verbal commands. The man was detained.

The officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person. He also had slurred speech, red watery eyes and a loss of balance, the report states.

Officers observed a bottle of beer in the driver’s door panel of the vehicle as well as an open bottle of tequila resting on the center console. The man told the deputy there was another subject in the vehicle that might have ran away.

After running the man’s information through dispatch the officer learned the man did not have a valid license. Due to his failure to yield, failure to stop at a stop sign and open containers of alcohol in the vehicle, the man was placed under arrest.

He refused to take the standardized field sobriety tests. He submitted to a preliminary breath test with a .28. The arresting deputy explained the request for voluntary evidence. The man stated he understood. He provided evidentiary tests of .247 and .229.

The vehicle turned northbound on North Curry Street approaching Bath Street and abruptly pulled to the right and stopped, the report states.

The officer ordered the driver to roll down their window and show their hands. The deputy had to remind the driver and sole occupant multiple times to keep his hands where the officer could see.
