A few spots remain open for the Carson Water Subconservancy District bus tour Oct. 27-28, but don’t expect them to remain open for long.

“We’ve gotten a good response from community members this year, which we hope will generate interesting questions,” said Brenda Hunt, CWSD Watershed Program Manager. “Speakers should get a good idea of local residents’ concerns.”

Attendees will ride on a 55-passenger luxury bus, which will depart from the CWSD office both days. Topics range from water rights, river-restoration projects, and water quality and quantity to floodplain management, regenerative agriculture and more.

Stops include the Quill water treatment plant in Carson City; ranch-to-river conservation and recreation project conversions in Alpine County, Calif. and Douglas County, Nev; the wetlands east of Fallon; Churchill Museum; Lahontan Reservoir Dam; and Nevada’s newest state park. Videos and onboard presentations will keep travelers informed during the ride, and lunch will be provided at River Fork Ranch and Rambling River Ranches.

Tour cost is $225. Certified engineers, planners, floodplain managers, and water operators can earn continuing education credits.

Sponsors for this year’s event include J-U-B Engineers, Inc., Kimley-Horn, Lumos & Associates, Inc. and SGS.

“We have a few return attendees, which indicates the quality of our speakers and the variety of sites,” said Hunt. “The beautiful fall colors are a bonus to the amazing on-the-ground learning opportunities and will make the drive quite pretty.”
