The Friends of the Carson City Library, in partnership with the Carson City Library, celebrated the renaming of the Digitorium Room to the Phyllis and Phil Patton Community Room in honor of the couple’s extraordinary dedication to championing and promoting the library for the past 30 years.
A dedication ceremony, held on March 11, 2026, unveiled the commemorative plaque which will be installed at the entrance of the newly named Patton Community room.

Mayor Lori Bagwell joined in the celebration and presented Phil Patton with a certificate of recognition which thanked the Pattons for their years of dedication and service. She said, “Their impact is generational. They really left a legacy.”
Phyllis served for 20 years as a Trustee on the Library Board and she became an active member of the Library Foundation. In the years that followed, Phyllis and Phil also became active members of the Friends of the Carson City Library.
Phyllis served as the President of the Friends Board of Directors for seven years. Phil has served as the Treasurer for the organization for the past six years and he is the go-to leader who helps guide daily operations and solve many business challenges.

Phyllis and Phil joined a small group of other dedicated library supporters and were instrumental in establishing and operating Browsers Corner Book Store in its current location. Browsers is the major fundraising activity for the Friends of the Carson City Library and the bookstore donates up to 95% of net proceeds to the library. It is entirely staffed by dedicated volunteers who gift their time and talents to operate Browsers Corner Book Store.
During the past 11 years, the bookstore has donated over $468,000 to support special programs and book acquisitions at the Carson City Library. The library would not be what it is today without the couple’s vision, leadership and commitment.
