A 20-year-old man was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of DUI, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office booking report.
A CCSO deputy was traveling southbound on South Carson Street at 3:55 a.m. and observed a vehicle traveling northbound on South Carson Street with an inoperable headlight. The deputy made a U-turn and initiated a traffic stop after exiting the roundabout at South Carson and South Stewart Street.
The driver made a sharp movement from the left part of the lane to pull into a parking lot and stopped in the parking lot. The deputy made contact with the driver and observed a bottle of beer in the center cupholder. The deputy knocked on the passenger window and the suspect rolled it down. The deputy advised the driver the reason for the stop was because of the inoperable headlight, the report states.
The man claimed he had fixed the headlights and attempted to exit the vehicle. The man was instructed to stay in the vehicle with the deputy requesting his driver’s license, registration and proof of insurance.
The man began rambling and his speech was heavy and slurred, the report states. The deputy had prompted him several times for the requested documents. The man handed the deputy his entire wallet when the license was requested, the report states.
While speaking, the deputy could smell an odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. The deputy asked him how much he had to drink this evening, with the man saying “not that much,” the report states.
The deputy conducted a records check on the driver. Another deputy arrived and the arresting deputy informed the man he believed he was operating a vehicle under the influence and requested he participate in standardized field sobriety tests. The man agreed to the tests and showed clues of impairment on the tests. The man was arrested for suspicion of DUI. At jail he submitted to evidentiary breath samples of .145 and .149. Bail: $1,140.
