After finishing the regular season tied for first-place at 6-1, the Carson High Bowling team battled through four weeks of intense playoffs, facing their toughest matches of the season, to finish with an impressive 10-1 record and the title of High Desert Interscholastic Bowling Program Champions.
Of the nine northern Nevada high schools represented (Carson, Damonte Ranch, Douglas, Fernley, Galena, Bishop Manogue, North Valleys, Reed and Spanish Springs), there were 166 bowlers in the league. Teams generally consist of 5–8 bowlers, with 5 competing, often in boys’ or girls’ divisions. In addition to taking home the honors as the top team, which is something Carson High Bowling has done now 19 of the last 23 years, several team members were honored with individual awards.

Khia Dunbar and Jake Ellis-Cronan, seniors, were selected as the Carson High Varsity bowlers of the year. This would normally earn each of them a modest scholarship; however, once each school has made their nominations, the league forwards the kids’ nomination notes, performance record and academics to an outside panel who selects just one male and one female to be named the League Bowlers of the Year. Both Jake and Khia received this additional honor, earning them each The Ron Nicasio Scholarship of $2,500.
Donnita Wass, junior, was recognized for having the highest female average (177) out of the entire league of 188 bowlers.
Hannah Glisson and Jack Pedersen, juniors, were both selected to the regional All Star Team, earning them scholarship money and recognition for their academics and commitment to the sport and their team.
Tatum Geiger, freshman, and Nate Christ, sophomore, were honored by the league as Carson High’s JV Bowlers of the year, based on a review of their sportsmanship, academics and strength in the sport.
