Nearly two dozen members of Carson High School’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) traded their notebooks for trash bags this past weekend, joining their advisors for a day of community service and leadership development at Sand Harbor, Lake Tahoe.
The students spent the afternoon collecting litter along the shoreline and nearby trails, helping preserve the natural beauty of one of northern Nevada’s most beloved destinations. Their efforts underscored FBLA’s commitment to civic responsibility and environmental stewardship.

Following the cleanup, the group participated in a series of team-building and leadership activities designed to strengthen communication, collaboration and trust.
“This event gave our members the chance to make a visible difference in their community while also growing as leaders,” said FBLA Adviser Cody Downing. “It’s a reminder that leadership isn’t just about business skills—it’s about giving back and working together.”
Carson High’s FBLA chapter includes 60 student members, led by advisers Cody Downing, Jennifer Kazarian and Areli Sanabria-Solis.
