A 66-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Wednesday for battery with a deadly weapon, reckless driving, failure to obey a flagger with injury, and driving on a closed highway.

According to the arrest report, Sharon Marie Simon was arrested after deputies were dispatched to the area of William and Stewart Streets around 3 p.m. on report of a vehicle versus pedestrian crash.

Deputies spoke with the victim, who was a construction worker. They told deputies that an SUV had pulled into the business parking lot of Salty Tavern, the south side of which was coned off due to active construction.

The vehicle started towards the cones, indicating the driver may be traveling through the construction zone.

The victim went over to the car and told the driver that she couldn’t go that way.

The arrest report stated that a “verbal altercation ensued,” and the driver, later identified as Simon, told the victim “fuck you, I’m going,” and accelerated into the construction area through the cones.

In the process, the victim was struck by the driver’s side mirror of the vehicle, which knocked him back. In the process, he removed his hard hat and flung it at the vehicle, striking the rear.

The vehicle then sped through the construction area and was last seen westbound on William. The victim said he was okay and didn’t need medical treatment, but wanted to pursue charges.

The witness who had called 911 confirmed they witnessed the vehicle strike the construction worker as it sped through the construction zone, and supplied a written statement.

The reporting deputy returned to the Sheriff’s Office and reviewed traffic cameras in the area. They were able to see the vehicle stopped in traffic heading southbound on Stewart at William for the construction zone. After a moment, the vehicle then cut into the parking lot and crept towards the construction zone, at which point the victim came and spoke with the driver. The video briefly cut out, then showed the vehicle speeding away and the victim throwing his hard hat at the rear.

The deputy was able to make out the license plate and tracked it to Simon.

The reporting deputy went to Simon’s house and spoke with her about the incident. She said she had been confused by the construction, and pulled into the parking lot because the sign said “business access.”

She said she didn’t know where to go from there, and was going to go straight (southbound) when the construction worker approached her car. She said he was yelling at her that she was going the wrong way. She said she saw cars coming, and accelerated to merge into traffic. She said she saw tire tracks through the construction area so she thought that was the route she was meant to take, according to the report.

She said she drove away, and the worker hit her car and threw his hat. The passenger of the car at the time confirmed Simon’s story.

However, the deputy stated that based off their observations, they believed Simon intentionally disobeyed an authorized road worker by using her vehicle to drive through a coned-off road closure, striking the victim in the process with the mirror of her vehicle, “showing a wanton disregard for the safety of persons on a highway,” according to the report.

Simon was taken into custody for felony battery with a deadly weapon, misdemeanor reckless driving, misdemeanor failure to obey the signal of an authorized flagger with injury, and misdemeanor driving on a closed highway (work zone).

Pair arrested for felonies related to drugs, fake money

Paden Earl Child (35) and Catrale Reghetti (30) both of Reno were arrested in the area of Jackpot Crossing after deputies were patrolling the parking lot, as the area is “known for high drug activity.”

According to the report, just after 3 a.m. deputies observed a vehicle with an individual “slumped over” in the front passenger seat.

Deputies made contact with two occupants inside the vehicle: the male driver, later identified as Child, and the female passenger, later identified as Reghetti. They told deputies they had come to use their “free play” at the casino.

While speaking with Reghetti, the deputy stated they observed small clear plastic baggies on the floorboard near her feet. The reporting deputy requested a Deputy K-9 to respond.

They also stated that Reghetti showed signs of narcotic use including pinpoint pupils, slurred speech, and “nodding off” mid-conversation. They said she appeared “extremely nervous and avoided eye contact.”

Dispatch advised Reghetti had two felony warrants for her arrest issued out of Washoe County.

An unnamed Deputy K-9 was dispatched to the scene who conducted a free air sniff of the vehicle, resulting in a positive alert for the presence of narcotics.

Deputies conducted a search of the vehicle and located a tooter straw near the passenger seat with residue, a methamphetamine pipe on the passenger seat floorboard, and a methamphetamine pipe on the rear passenger floorboard.

In Reghetti’s purse, they located a used hypodermic needle, two used tooter straws, and a clear baggie containing a testable amount of methamphetamine.

In the rear seat area they located a black bag containing Child’s belongings which included a pair of gold-colored brass knuckles, a counterfeit $100 bill, a counterfeit $50 bill, and two fake ID cards.

Child admitted to creating the fake IDs and using them to obtain free play at casinos. Deputies also located a Cricut cutter, a heat laminator, and other items “consistent with the manufacturing of fraudulent identification documents,” according to the report.

Child was also taken into custody.

A tow truck was called, and animal control was contacted to take custody of a dog that was inside of the vehicle.
