On Septemer 16, 2025 Storey County Sheriff’s Office detectives served a search warrant at a residence in the Virginia City Highlands, after receiving informant information of illegal substance sales.
During the search, detectives located large quantities of illegal substances and two firearms. You may be thinking, well owning a firearm is legal. It sure is, unless you are a convicted felon! The resident, Jason Scott (age 43 of the Virginia City Highlands), was taken into custody.
Detectives pulled an impressive amount of marijuana, THC concentrate, ecstasy pills, and psylocibin from the residence. Don’t know what psylocibin is? Maybe you have heard of Magic Mushrooms? 782 grams of psylocibin, 509.87 grams of THC concentrate, 1.88 pounds of marijuana, 33 ecstasy (MDMA) pills, and two firearms were seized from the residence. Before you say it, yes marijuana is legal, if you are of legal age and have proper quantities. These amounts are not legal. Evidence of items used for sales of illegal substances were also discovered in the residence.
But wait there’s more! Scott had an active felony warrant issued by the Reno Township Justice Court for charges relating to possession of narcotics, possession of a firearm by prohibited person, and driving under the influence. Scott also had not registered as a convicted person (felon) in Storey County, despite living here as a resident.
Scott was transported to the Storey County Detention Facility, where he was booked on the following charges with a total bail of $285,640.00:
- NRS 211.370 Arrest on other agency warrant
- NRS 179c.100 Convicted person failure to register with local law enforcement within 48 hours
