A 31-year-old man was arrested Oct. 30 for suspicion of felony child abuse or neglect after allegedly throwing a chair into the ceiling near his daughter’s crib during a domestic battery involving his wife, according to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office booking report.

Following an investigation, CCSO deputies arrested Travis Robert Milner. He was also booked for alleged felony domestic battery with strangulation and felony preventing a victim from reporting a crime.

According to the sheriff’s office booking report, deputies were called to the 500 block of Stewart Street in reference to a domestic battery. Deputies were advised that a man at the location had grabbed a woman by the neck and were advised the man left the area on foot.

Deputies arrived and met with the reporting party, who identified herself. She had puffy, red and watery eyes and looked like she had been crying. She said her husband, later identified as Milner, had been drinking alcohol and that he was acting “belligerent” and she was scared for her safety.

She explained the man picked up their small dog by the neck and threw it. After seeing this, she told Milner that she was going to call 911. She stated that she was sitting down at the desk chair in their room. When she picked up her phone to call 911, she said the suspect grabbed her by the throat with both hands and picked her up. She stated he picked her up approximately six inches off the seat she was sitting on. She stated the man then let her go and grabbed her phone. She stated she lunged for the phone but that he threw it across the room toward their bathroom, according to the report.

She said she saw where the phone was so she picked it up. She said the man tripped over a rolling chair in the middle of the room and got angry. She said he picked up their chair and threw it at the ceiling. She stated that is when the suspect saw she was on the phone with 911 operators, that he left out the front door and ran northbound.

Deputies learned the couple have a two-year-old daughter. The woman stated the daughter was initially sleeping in her crib during the incident. Due to the size of the motel room, their daughter’s crib is in the living area of the room. The deputy noticed there was a hole in the ceiling and drywall stuck to one of the wheels of the chair. The chair was sitting right next to the 2-year-old’s crib and the hole was just to the left of it. The mother stated the daughter was in the crib when Milner threw the chair into the ceiling, according to the report.

The victim also had red marks on her neck where she described the suspect had grabbed her. These marks were consistent with being grabbed, the report states. The victim stated that although the suspect grabbed her with both hands around the neck, she never lost her airway or consciousness, the report states.
