By Joyce Jackson — During the annual Vacation Bible School (VBS) event at Calvary Baptist Church-Dayton, the children  learned that God, the Creator of all things, cares about them and the tiniest of details, right down to their “fingerprints” and the number of “hairs on their heads!”

They learned to look at “butterfly wings,” the “details of a flower” and to proclaim God’s greatness and thank Him every day.  Learning about how God wants for us to share our knowledge about Him and his love with others.  The goal the entire week was to ensure that the children walked away knowing these simple values.

In addition, the children found ways to share God’s love with others.  They learned about “Missions” and chose a mission for this year,  Dayton Community Food Pantry.  Each day the children brought money for their “Mission Offering” and they watched the thermometer rise beyond their original goal of $500.  It was so exciting for them to learn on the last day of VBS, that they had raised $1288.

Pictured in the photo are a few of the volunteers at the food pantry, the manager of the food pantry, Traci Rothman accepting the check from Calvary Baptist Church, Pastor Clyde Les Wesley and volunteers Harmon Lyzenga and Bella Patina of Calvary Baptist Church.  An extended thank you was extended to Paula Rickmann, VBS Director, who coordinated this event.
