A 40-year-old Mound House man was arrested in the 3500 block of N. Carson Street for possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia after deputies noted a vehicle driving in the area of College and Retail Drive with a shattered windshield which was obstructing the driver’s side view.
The reporting deputy caught up to the vehicle and noted the vehicle as also failing to maintain lanes. Deputies conducted a traffic stop at a fast food restaurant and made contact with the man.
The man said his screen was recently shattered and he was waiting for his paycheck, but agreed that the windshield is partially obstructing his view while driving.
While the man was looking for his paperwork, the reporting deputy stated they observed a glass bong sitting in the backseat of the truck directly behind the middle console area in plain view. They said the stem had a white crystalline residue consistent with methamphetamine.
The deputy asked about the bong, and the man said it was a cannabis bong. The deputy asked if he could search the vehicle to confirm it was a cannabis bong and he said yes.
On closer review, deputies observed a “thick white crystalline residue consistent with methamphetamine inside the stem of the bong,” and informed the man “this was not a [cannabis] bong.”
Deputies continued to search the vehicle and in the middle console area they located a small grocery bag tied off with what appeared to be methamphetamine inside in the cup holder, and a small glass pipe with more white crystalline residue inside, with black tape around the mouthpiece.
Just before 3 a.m. the man was taken into custody. Deputies parked the man’s truck legally as it was in a parking lot but not in a legal parking spot, and then transported the man to the jail for possession.
Bail: $3,637

Carson City man arrested for DUI after rear ending victim, passing out during sobriety test
A 34 year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 2700 block of Highway 50 for DUI first after allegedly rear-ending another vehicle.
Deputies were dispatched just before 5:30 p.m. on report of a non-injury crash. When they arrived on scene, they spoke with the man who said he had been texting, looked up and rear ended the victim’s car. Deputies note that he had a “strong smell” of alcohol coming from his breath and slurred speech.
He told deputies he had been at a local casino for about four hours and was headed back home.
He agreed to take field sobriety tests, but as deputies were administering the HGN test (a test in which deputies study the persons’s eyes as they follow a stimulus like a finger or a penlight form left to right) he began to sway from front to back, his eyes started to roll back and he lost consciousness.
Deputies grabbed him and made sure he didn’t fall to the ground, and stated he was passed out for around 30-45 seconds. When he regained consciousness, they had him sit on the curb and did not conduct any other field testing due to safety concerns.
The man consented to a PBT, which returned with a 0.074 BAC.
He was taken to the hospital for an evidentiary blood draw, then taken to the jail on DUI first and released to jail staff without issue.
Bail: $1,137
