Wes Francis, as Alex Coryell, from the Virginia City Silent Riders will enhance the Leisure Hour Club members’ appreciation for life in Virginia City at their next dinner meeting on Thursday, March 20. Coryell was an officer who died in the line of duty in Virginia City in 1891.
The Silent Riders is a non-profit organization that keeps history alive in Virginia City, once the second largest city west of the Mississippi River, as living legends and historians. The Silent Riders fulfill their mission of promoting the Comstock by attending community events, working with local businesses, and sharing our history on the streets & boardwalks of historic Virginia City. Most days you’ll find them in and around Virginia City speaking with visitors as they stroll the boardwalk.
The Leisure Hour Club, established in September of 1896, is Carson City’s oldest continuously meeting social organization. The organization is focused on its goal of promoting knowledge on important issues, science, music and literature. Its motto of “Let knowledge grow from more to more” comes from Tennyson’s poem In Memoriam.
Information on joining the organization or on the reservations for the Thursday, March 20 dinner/meeting can be obtained by calling 775.302.8820 or by email to lhcreservations@gmail.com.
