Friends in Service Helping (FISH) has been named the recipient of a $10,000 affordable housing grant from the Wells Fargo Foundation to provide affordable student housing in Carson City.

“We are so grateful to Wells Fargo Foundation for their continued support of FISH and our programs that are essential to supporting Northern Nevadans,” said FISH Director of Development Amanda Jacobson. “It is because of community conscious organizations, such as Wells Fargo, that we can continue our mission to provide a hand up to those in need.”

At FISH Friends in Service Helping, we believe in creating a community where everyone feels welcome and supported.

Our community welcomes adult students of all ages, fostering a diverse and enriching living environment. We accept HUD vouchers, provide rental assistance and assist with many unexpected costs of education, ensuring that financial barriers do not stand in the way of the educational pursuits of students in Northern Nevada.

Pets are also welcome at no additional cost, because we understand the joy and comfort that furry companions bring.

Our apartments are situated in the heart of downtown Carson City, placing students within easy reach of educational institutions, shopping, dining, and entertainment.

Students enjoy the convenience of private parking and a secure, welcoming environment. Our outdoor playground and BBQ area is perfect for families, offering a safe space for children to play and explore.

About Friends in Service Helping

Friends in Service Helping (FISH) is a Nevada-based non-profit established in May 1979 to help those in need.

FISH does not rely on the government for funding. 98 percent of our budget is funded through the local community via donations and grants for the communities that we serve.

We have found that by creating a stable living environment and providing nutritious meals our clients find a renewed hope. With hope, clients can more accurately assess their behaviors and skills, and develop a willingness to change behaviors and improve their skills.

Clients create goals and FISH helps them succeed. As clients achieve small goals, we work on bigger goals, like developing skills to move from minimum wage jobs to meaningful careers.
