Don’t miss the opportunity to join Western Nevada College’s final driver education and baby-sitting certification classes of 2016.
All three WNC campuses are offering Driver Education through Continuing Education from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 27-30 to people 15 and older. Residents in the Fernley area will have the first shot at the Drivers Education class in 2017 as a session is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3 through Friday, Jan. 6 at Fernley High School. The cost is $100.
WNC also offers an online 30-Hour New Driver Education class for $90. This course provides a solid foundation of the knowledge and skills necessary to become a safe driver. Register at any time. Students have 60 days from the date of registration to complete the course.
In addition to Nevada driving regulations, Driver Education covers how to handle distractions and peer pressure, and how to prevent falling asleep at the wheel or driving under the influence.
Speakers include public safety officials and insurance representatives. Instruction includes tips on how to drive safely around large trucks and motorcycles, and how to avoid unexpected objects in the road, as well as maneuvering safely through roundabouts, and rules for driving in bad weather.
Nevada law requires new drivers younger than 18 to take a 30-hour New Driver Education course if one is offered within 30 miles of their home.

Baby-sitting Certification
For pre-teens and teens looking to improve their childcare resumes, a one-day Baby-sitting Certification course is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3 on WNC’s Carson City campus.
Baby-sitting Certification class prepares students ages 11 to 17 to become professional and responsible baby sitters. In a training program developed by the American Red Cross, students will gain knowledge and understand their responsibilities when caring for children.
This fast-paced course includes role-playing, lively discussions and video instruction. First aid is also covered in this course.
In addition, students will be presented with some of the skills needed to become hired. They will learn interviewing techniques and what questions to ask during an interview. The cost is $72.
