Nevada’s metropolitan areas all saw a decrease in their unemployment rates in August, according to the state’s Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation. The Carson City unemployment rate registered at 7.1 percent. In July it was 7.2 percent, while the Reno/Sparks area fell to 6.1 percent. The Las Vegas rate dropped to 7 percent.
In August, the metro areas saw an improvement in employment relative to last year, said Bill Anderson, chief economist for Nevada’s Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation. Employment in Las Vegas was the highest with an increase of 25,800 jobs, an increase of 2.9 percent. Reno/Sparks realized an increase of 6,800 jobs, growing by 3.4 percent. Statewide job numbers increased 3.3 percent over the year, with a seasonally adjusted 40, 200 jobs.
“The sub-state numbers are not seasonally adjusted, therefore we see a decrease in the unemployment rate, while the statewide unemployment rate remained steady in August,” Anderson said. “Nevertheless, trends continue to point to an overall improvement in the labor market for the Silver State.”
