While many choose to leave their Christmas trees up through New Year’s Day, some begin to bring them down the weekend following Dec. 25.
Christmas trees can be recycled as part of curbside collection on regular resident trash day through Jan. 16, 2026 at no additional cost, according to Carson City Public Works.
If your tree is taller than 6 feet, Carson City Public Works advises to cut the tree into sections no longer than 6 feet. All decorations, lights, tinsel and bases must be removed.
Trees may also be dropped off for recycling in marked locations at 5560 Sheep Drive and Airport Road between Butti Way and East 5th in Carson City.
