A Carson City man and Sparks woman were arrested early Tuesday for alleged drug trafficking, drug possession and other charges, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
Jacob Paul Hoffman, 46, of Carson City and Jamie Nikole Woods, 45, of Sparks were taken into custody and booked into the Minden Jail following an investigation that stemmed from a traffic stop in Minden.
Douglas County Sheriff’s Office patrol stopped the pair for a traffic violation. During the stop, deputies observed suspicious behavior from the vehicle’s occupants, prompting the use of a DCSO drug detection K9 to inspect the exterior of the vehicle, according to a DCSO news release.
The K9 alerted to the presence of controlled substances, leading to a search of the vehicle. Deputies discovered approximately 165 grams of suspected methamphetamine and 115 grams of suspected liquid gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB). GHB, often used recreationally, is also known for its association with drug-facilitated sexual assault, commonly referred to as a “date rape drug,” the news release states.
In such cases, suspects may secretly administer GHB to unsuspecting victims by adding it to their drinks, typically using small containers such as eye-drop bottles. Once ingested, the drug can cause the victim to lose consciousness, rendering them vulnerable to assault. Victims often experience short-term amnesia, making it difficult to recall the events leading up to the assault.
DCSO urges residents to remain vigilant during holiday celebrations. Women, in particular, are advised to keep a close eye on their drinks and never leave them unattended in public spaces.
Hoffman and Woods were booked into the Minden Jail. They face multiple charges, including:
• Trafficking in a controlled substance
• Possession of a controlled substance for sale
• Possession of drug paraphernalia
• Possession of burglary tools (lock pick set)
Douglas County Sheriff Dan Coverley emphasizes the importance of community awareness and cooperation in combating drug-related crimes.
