A 28-year-old Carson City man, Zachary Cole Winter Violett, was arrested in the 1000 block of Latigo Drive just after midnight Wednesday for felony child neglect.

According to the arrest report, Violett was arrested after deputies began an investigation Tuesday evening regarding the child’s mother sustaining significant injuries to her face and body.

She was transferred to Renown for a higher level of care, and the reporting deputy was informed that the level of injuries was deemed “severe,” and a man on scene, later identified as Violett, “was not answering questions as to how [the woman] sustained the injuries.”

Deputies arrived on scene and noticed a one-month-old baby lying in a bassinet near the front door. The reporting deputy stated that upon immediately entering the apartment, they noticed a large number of empty alcohol containers in the kitchen, and that the only smoke detector in the one-bedroom apartment did not have a battery inside it.

In the bedroom, the deputy said they found an “overwhelming amount of consumed empty alcoholic beverage cans on a nightstand near the bed,” and there was some blood on the mattress that had come from the infant’s mother.

Inside the bathroom of the apartment, there was black mold on the ceiling, and a broken cabinet beneath the sink.

On speaking with Violett, he told deputies that he had been drinking “a large amount of alcohol for the past five days” according to the arrest report, and that on December 1 he’d come home with a bottle of vodka for him and the baby’s mother to consume. He said that he came home around 7:35 p.m. and “blacked out” shortly after. He said he did not hear any sounds while he was “blacked out.”

He said he woke up the next day (Tuesday) around 9 or 10 a.m. He said he noticed that the baby’s mother was still “blacked out,” but he was able to wake her up. He said he did not see how she had obtained the injuries to her face, but that she had claimed she fell into a cabinet below the sink.

The reporting deputy stated that, based on the timeline Violett provided, he was blacked out from 8:30 p.m. to 9 or 10 a.m. the next day. He said that their infant slept between them in their bed when they were blacked out, and that he slept in “a thing that resembled a dog bed,” but the deputy was not able to locate what Violett was referring to.

Violett claimed he would have been able to hear if the baby woke up, which the deputy noted was contradictory since he had not been able to hear when the baby’s mother fell and sustained injuries to her face.

The deputy also wrote that it should be noted that while they were on scene investigating, which was approximately four hours, the baby woke up several times needing a bottle or diaper change.

The deputy stated that based on the lack of a working smoke detector, black mold in the bathroom, and Violett being “blacked out” when he should have been available to care for their one-month-old baby, deputies placed Violett into custody for child neglect and endangerment.

Bail: $20,000

Man arrested for hitting fast-food employee, peeing on building

A 40-year-old transient man was arrested for battery and indecent conduct, both misdemeanors, in the 300 block of E. William Street after allegedly hitting a fast-food employee before leaving on foot when their co-worker called 911.

According to the arrest report, deputies responded to the area just after 6:30 p.m. to begin looking for the suspect, and witnessed a man matching the description standing in the drive-thru of a nearby bank.

Deputies asked the man what he had been doing at the fast food restaurant, and at first, the man “pretended he did not know what deputies were talking about,” but then said he was just trying to get food.

He continued to ask “what was going on” and “what he did wrong,” according to the report.

The deputy also noted he believed the man had urinated on the side of the building prior to them approaching him.

Another deputy spoke with the victim, who stated that the man had entered the fast food restaurant and ordered food. After receiving his food, the man was asked to leave as he was “grossly intoxicated” and “falling asleep in the restaurant.”

However, while he left the building, he remained on the property and was later asked to leave again. The man then attempted to enter a vehicle that was locked, and the employee again told him to leave, at which point the employee reported that the man struck him in the upper chest area. The employee said he pushed the man away, at which time he proceeded to “get in [the employee’s] face again,” and the employee said he punched the man in the face to protect himself.

Several other coworkers came outside and escorted the man off the property, then called the sheriff’s office.

The man refused to provide a statement regarding his presence at the fast food restaurant, and he was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for medical clearance. Later, he was transported to the jail and booked on battery and indecent exposure.

Bail: $1,439

Carson City man arrested for domestic battery

A 35-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 3300 block of Butti Way for domestic battery first after allegedly hitting his wife during an argument about mail.

When deputies arrived on the scene on a report of possible domestic, they reported seeing a vehicle driving away at a high rate of speed. Deputies stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver, who was the victim of the domestic.

They spoke with the woman who was crying and visibly upset. She denied needing medical attention, but when asked if she was hurt, she said that her head hurt and she had a headache; deputies noted she had swelling on the right side of her forehead.

When deputies asked why her forehead was swollen, she said she’d been in a fight with her husband. She said they had been fighting because he’d just gotten out of jail a few days earlier, and he was “upset because his mail was on top of the refrigerator,” according to the report.

Deputies asked what happened next, and she said they began to argue and she tried to leave the apartment, at which point he yelled at her, then pushed her. She said she pushed him back, and he hit her in the head. She told deputies she hit him multiple times after he hit her, then left the apartment.

A child was in the vehicle, and deputies spoke to the child who told them they had seen the two pushing each other, then saw the man hit the woman in the head before the woman hit him back.

At the residence, deputies spoke with the man who said they’d been arguing, but couldn’t tell deputies what they were arguing about. He said the woman hit herself multiple times before hitting him, then said she’d call the police and he would go to jail.

Deputies noted the man had a scratch on each arm, and marks on his knuckles. He told deputies the marks were from a scooter crash the previous day.

Based on the physical evidence and the statements received, deputies determined the man to be the primary aggressor and arrested him for domestic battery. He was taken to jail without incident.

Bail: $3,137

Deputies noted the man was obviously intoxicated, was stumbling, and smelled of alcohol, but he said that nothing had happened and everything was fine. A witness said they’d been at the gas pump when the man hit the front of their truck, and that he kept revving his engine and attempted to leave multiple times. The man said he “didn’t have much” to drink, and agreed to field sobriety tests, which he failed. He later provided a PBT of 0.247 BrAC.

His daughter, the registered owner of the vehicle, arrived on the scene and took custody of it, and the man was transported to the Carson City Jail without incident.
