The week is shaping up to be dry, mild and for the most part sunny around Carson City and surrounding counties with cold mornings and freezing fog in some areas, according to the National Weather Service in Reno. There are no signals for a significant storm this week.
Strong inversions are in place with light winds and cold overnight lows this week. Freezing fog may persist in some areas overnight into Monday, mostly where it has lingered for the past couple of days, NWS forecasters said.
A weak low has brought mid to high level clouds across the region, which may play a role with continued areas of freezing fog.
At the time of this writing the National Weather Service has not issued a Freezing Fog Advisory but that could change. Go here for the latest updates.
Temperatures may vary across the region with those areas remaining trapped with fog/stratus staying near or below freezing, while other valley locations may warm into the upper 40s to low 50s this week.
Temperatures will be well above normal in the mountains around Lake Tahoe with high temperatures into the 50s and lows near or above freezing, forecasters note.
For Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas, Monday will be sunny with a high near 50. Tuesday through Friday will be sunny with highs in the low 50s.
For the annual Silver and Snowflake Christmas Tree lighting at the Nevada State Capitol in Carson City this Friday, the forecast calls for mostly clear skies with night time temperatures expected to be around 25.
On Saturday, the forecast calls for sunny skies with daytime highs in the low to mid-50s. Night time temperatures were unavailable at the time of writing, but will likely be chilly with lows in the upper 20s. So those heading to the Parade of Lights in Carson Valley should bundle up.
