Twelve-year old Amelia Schnaible, a student at Carson Middle School, earned first place in the local competition.

The Carson City Host Lions Club is proud to announce the local winners of this year’s Lions International Peace Poster Contest, an annual global art competition that empowers young people ages 11-13 to express their vision of peace through art.  The 2025 theme, “Together as One,” inspired many young artists across Nevada and around the world.

Twelve-year old Amelia Schnaible, a student at Carson Middle School, earned first place in the local competition.  Amelia, the daughter of Zach and Shannon Schnaible, received a $50 award and will now advance to the Nevada District 46 level for further competition.

In describing her thoughts on peace, Amelia explained, “Peace is based on equality and tranquility.”  Her poster visually captured that message with a heart-shaped Earth surrounded by people holding hands — an illustration of unity, compassion, and global connection.

Denali Stevens, a 12-year-old student at Eagle Valley Middle School, earned second place and a $25 award.  Her artwork incorporated a musical theme featuring guitars and notes against an evening sky, symbolizing how music can unite communities.  She entered the contest through the art class of Ms. Shannon Schnaible, an art teacher at Eagle Valley Middle School.

The student who wins the District-wide competition will receive a $125 prize and advance to the Lions International level.  Ultimately, one young artist worldwide will be named the International Grand Prize Winner, earning a trip to a special awards ceremony hosted by Lions Clubs International and a $5,000 scholarship.  Additionally, 23 merit award winners will each receive $500.
