The National Weather Service in Reno is anticipating heavy snow in the Sierra this weekend, making traveling over mountain passes difficult.
By sunset Friday, much of the area will have the first taste of this winter storm. This could impact your evening commute. However, majority of the precip will fall overnight. Snow levels start out at 7000″ and drop to 5500″ by tomorrow morning.
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 10pm Saturday. We could see snow amounts up to 2″ above 7000″. Travel in the mountains Saturday will be very difficult to impossible.
A brief lull Sunday gives way to another round of snow with a Winter Weather Watch in effect late Sunday.
The storm Friday-Saturday brings heavy, wet snow with locally higher amounts to the area. The system Sunday-Tuesday is colder and may bring more widespread impacts. Besides some lingering showers possible Wednesday, we look to cool off and dry out ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday!
